Immigration: a complex and unique sphere of American law

When it comes to a buzz word in American law (that is, a term that is virtually guaranteed to arouse emotions in listeners and instantly engender passionate debate points across the entire political spectrum), perhaps one choice among all possibilities reigns supreme.

And that is this: immigration.

Readers of our immigration, asylum and criminal defense blog at the Coughlin Law Firm, PLLC, in Phoenix, likely find themselves at least temporarily focused on the topic several times a week, if not daily, given its front-and-center capacity to dominate local and national news outlets.

And then there are, well, the politicians, who routinely rely on immigration-based utterances to keep themselves in prominent sight at the podium as they curry constituents’ favor.

In a word, immigration is controversial. We simply note on a website page discussing immigration considerations and complexities that, “Controversies over immigration command our country’s headlines every day.”

And while that is a central reality, owing especially to turbulent times that have offered up distinct and singular challenges in recent years, immigration is also notable for another reason in the United States.

And that is its intimate connection with the hopes, dreams and aspirations of millions of individuals and families who, as we note on our site, consider the U.S. as “a beacon of opportunity for all freedom-loving people.”

Collectively, Americans might sputter and spar in their immigration views, but a bottom-line consideration that is universally true is that we all came from somewhere else. The story of the United States is fundamentally a tale of immigrants over centuries.

And that tale continues, with a rational immigration policy well attuned to American history and the collectively held American dream being of critical importance to national power and vitality.

Our firm commands years of experience representing people from all walks of life in matters involving immigration and asylum, as well as with criminal law considerations that can affect immigration status.

We welcome readers’ closest scrutiny of our blog posts, as well as questions and comments regarding this distinct and fundamentally important area of American law. We hope you find our future post entries to be uniformly relevant and instructive.
